Arcachon Bay & Cap Ferret

Bordeaux’s seaside is lesser known than Saint-Tropez or Cannes, but it is nonetheless splendid! The blue-watered bay of Arcachon is where you’ll find oysters, fresh seafood and traipse the highest dune in Europe – the Dune of Pilat. A popular summer holiday destination for locals and international travelers, Arcachon is an easy one hour train ride from Bordeaux and worth the effort!

Arcachon Bay is a little corner of paradise, with its breathtaking landscapes and pleasant microclimate. It is pristine and protected, but abundant with local shops, restaurants and cafes. Strolling around in summer or winter, take in the Moorish and Gothic architecture of 19th century villas. Afterwards, explore traditional fishing villages, meet oyster farmers and chat with them about their work that they love so much. Inside their brightly colored wood huts, taste fresh oysters straight from the sea and renowned around France. Enjoy them with a glass of Entre-Deux-Mers, a crisp white wine from Bordeaux.

Cap Ferret

Take a boat tour, or even travel across the bay where it is more natural and wild – the Cap Ferret peninsula. Here you’ll find long empty beaches and small coves to embrace the salty sea wind. There is also the Île aux Oiseaux (Bird Island) and the local lighthouse to admire near the local township. Check out the local hustle and bustle at local food markets and the oyster farmers’ village. You can sit right on the beach in the sunshine enjoying a seafood feast!

Whether you’re a nature lover, into biodiversity, adore the sea, appreciate a good oyster, are a sports buff, or just revel in great food, this region between heaven and sea is the perfect place to be. Escape your worries and enrich your spirit with a seaside escape that you’ll never forget.

Request a private wine tour with us for a chance to wander around Arcachon Bay, taking part in fun activities such as a guided bike tour, boat parasailing and oyster tasting at a local oyster farm!
